Frequently Asked Questions

People in Christian County have important questions about what a data center campus would mean for their community. The questions and answers below are written specifically for neighbors, local businesses, civic groups, and public officials who want clear, straightforward information. As planning continues, we will update this page with new information relevant to the project.

Why Christian County?

Christian County sits at the intersection of critical high-voltage transmission infrastructure, including 345 kV lines that run adjacent to the site. Combined with a strong regional workforce and a central Illinois location, it is a unique fit for a long-term, large-scale digital infrastructure campus.

Will this data center raise my electric bill? Will it cause outages?

No. Ameren Illinois and MISO are conducting formal interconnection studies to verify the grid can reliably serve the campus alongside existing customers. The project will also increase overall grid resilience in the region at no cost to existing ratepayers. No construction can begin until those studies are complete and requirements are satisfied.

What about noise?

Meridian Technology Park is designed to be a quiet neighbor; we are committed to maintaining a 55-decibel limit at the property line during peak operation. Extensive setbacks, landscaped berms, modern equipment and sound attenuation measures will keep noise levels at the property line comparable to a household appliance and similar to noise in a residential neighborhood.

What real benefits would the community receive?

The project represents an estimated $6B investment and is expected to generate significant tax revenue and additional economic activity in the area. Construction is projected to create over 1000 jobs and at full build out the facility is expected to support around 500 permanent jobs. These permanent careers include facilities engineers, IT technicians, operations managers, network engineers and project managers, all with salaries averaging between $90-105K. In addition to jobs and tax revenue, we are discussing support for first responders, K-12 STEM education, public services and job training.
